Nana's Story

The whimsical new Barnana mascot, “Nana,” was created by legendary Brazilian street artist Speto. Designed in his signature free-spirited style of street art, Speto created the Nana character to help bring awareness to Barnana’s important mission of reducing food waste. He developed this banana-loving monkey mascot based on the endangered Spider Monkey found in South America, the origin of the upcycled bananas used in Barnana’s Banana Bites and Cookie Brittle.

Barnana has been a leading voice in reducing food waste and providing smallholder Central and South American banana and plantain farmers with viable markets for less-than-perfect fruit. Barnana continues its mission to educate about food waste with a little help from our approachable and playful mascot, Nana.
